Climate Change: Every Action Counts
On Friday, March 14, 2025, Dr. Konstantinos Eleftheriadis, coordinator of FROSTDEFEND, visited his hometown, Kilkis, in his capacity as Research Director and Director of the Institute of Nuclear and Radiological Sciences, Technology & Safety at NCSR-Demokritos. His visit was hosted by the 2nd Experimental General Lyceum of Kilkis as part of the conference “Climate Change: Every Action Counts”, which focused on the thematic area of Environment & Climate Change. The event was organized under the “EPAS Schools – Ambassadors of the European Parliament” programme.
During his visit, Dr. Eleftheriadis presented the initiative for the establishment of an Atmospheric and Climate Change Monitoring Station at the Balkan Botanical Garden of Kroussia in Kilkis. He emphasized the importance of this station in providing valuable information about climate change, which could serve as a driver of development for the region. Dr. Eleftheriadis also spoke to the students about EU-funded research initiatives aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change, including LIFE FROSTDEFEND. He explained how unpredictable climate shifts can cause significant agricultural damage and detailed how the FROSTDEFEND program uses sensors to help farmers manage this risk by taking proactive measures, such as spraying water or copper on trees, to help them reduce the impact of frost on their crops.
